Macon, Georgia– “We cater to those who want better,” is the motto of Back to Edenz Vegetarian Restaurant. At a time when an increasing number of people are becoming more health conscious, Back to Edenz is on point. The obesity rate may be a contributing factor for the rising health consciousness throughout the United States. In fact, when it comes to obesity Georgia, The State of Obesity reports that the state has “the 19th highest adult obesity rate in the nation.” They go on to add “Georgia’s adult obesity rate is currently 30.7 percent, up from 20.6 percent in 2000 and from 10.1 percent in 1990.”
Obesity is considered a huge medical concern and has caught the attention of healthcare providers due to the more frequent cases of heart disease in America. The Center for Disease Control lists it as the leading cause of death with over 600,000 deaths attributed to heart disease in 2014- Content Source: CDC/National Center for Health Statistics.
Gerard Andre, the owner of Back to Edenz said his decision to specialize in vegetarian cuisine was inspired yet by his need to eat healthier, and so he felt other may just as well have the same desire. Andre has been serving healthy cuisine since 2004. His endeavor as a restaurateur began in the downtown Macon area under the formerly yet aptly business name Edenz. After a brief stint out of business, he relocated to his new location on 3348 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia. He renamed the business “Back to Edenz” in homage of his previous venture. The name was inspired by the Garden of Eden as a means to “help people get back to the way the original diet was” said, Andre. He plans on expanding shortly to allow for more occupancy and to add more menu items as well as a juice bar.
Back to Edenz is open M-Th from 11 am- 7 pm, Fri from 11am-3pm, Sun from 12-5pm, and closed on Sat. You can also purchase a meal at various satellite locations. Locations include Tuesdays on Memorial Drive in Atlanta, the Mulberry Farmers Market in Macon on Wednesdays, the Farmers Market on Watson Blvd in Warner Robins on Thursdays, and the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins on Fridays. Meals are priced at $7.50 per lb. or you can opt for the buffet which varies depending on the day of the week from $11.95 or $13.95 so inquire upon ordering.
Don Harper's passion for writing came at an early age. As a second grader, he wrote his first short story, one about his father, a fireman. His teacher typed and edited it, and made the story into a hardbound book. This cherished memory inspired this now 35 year from Milledgeville to create.
He is also fascinated by the culture of hip-hop. He began to write poetry and lyrics, and by the time I was in high school had joined a music group who performed live shows and even opened up for some major artists. His current endeavors include working on a trilogy of short stories and finishing his studies at Middle Georgia State University. He is completing his Bachelor of Arts, majoring in New Media and Communication. He hopes to one day acquire a position as a writer for a major network and to also have penned a best-selling novel.
