Member of the Rutland High School Wrestling Team competed in the Bibb County Wrestling Championship, which was held at Rutland High School on January 20, 2018. Freshman David Watts, who weighed in at 160lbs, took the Championship title for his weight class. Junior Daniel Taylor, who weighed in at 138lbs, also won first place and was the Champion for his weight class. Junior Tyrell Davis, who weighed in at 120lbs, won third place in his weight class. Finally, Gabriel Pompa, a sophomore who weighed in at 195lbs, took second place in his weight class.

Team members Wyatt Davis, a freshman wrestler, and sophomore Joseph Krietzer wrestled admirably in the championship, and they gained valuable experience in competition. The Rutland High School wrestlers who participated in this championship faced off against wrestlers from Mount DeSales, First Presbyterian Day School, Stratford Academy, Tattnall Square Academy, Northeast High School, Howard High School, Westside High School, and Central High School.

Local businesses generously donated food items to the Canes Takedown Booster Club to provide a hospitality room for the coaches and referees to enjoy during their time at Rutland High School for the event. Johnny V’s restaurant, Tommy’s, and Fincher’s Barbeque each donated food for the event, as did the McDonald’s on Hartley Bridge Road. The Canes Takedown Booster Club expresses their sincere thanks for the support these Macon-Bibb businessowners have shown to their organization.

The Canes Takedown Booster Club is currently organizing the 1st Annual Lacy “Sarge” Watts Memorial Car Show to benefit the Rutland High School Wrestling Team. The car show will be held on April 21, 2018, from 8:00 am-2:00 pm at Rutland High School, located at 6250 Skipper Road, in Macon, Georgia.

Car registration will be from 8-11 am at Rutland High School. All models welcome! $20 registration fee for all who want to enter a car/truck/jeep/motorcycle into the show, while spectators are free. Awards in will be given in eight different categories, including Best in Show, Wrestlers’ Favorite, “Sarge” Award, Best Motorcycle, Best Jeep/Truck, Best Pre-1970, Best Post 1970, and Best Customization. The awards ceremony will begin at 1:30 pm.

The event will also feature a 50/50 raffle drawing at 1:30 pm. The winner does not have to be present to win.

The Canes Takedown Booster Club is currently seeking food vendors, including food trucks, to participate in the event.
